Pistols and Revolvers


Any pistol or revolver may be used during the NRA Pistol Qualification program. All calibers are
treated as equal; there are no separate categories based on caliber.

Sights


Participants may use any sites they deem necessary.

Targets:


Nine-inch paper plates or paper disks, AP-1 and/or AP-2 precision targets (trademarked as
Bianchi targets).

Timers


When time restrictions are specified, time will be kept by a Level 1 Firearms Safety and Training
instructor or an official designated time keeper.

Pistol Qualification Levels and Requirements:



Basic Practical



Completion of the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course.

Pro-Marksmanship


Benchrest position, two hands
15 feet
No time restrictions
Paper Plates
Shoot 10 plates with 5 shots on each plate. All shots must be inside a half inch margin from the edge of the plate. Shooters may rest between each set of plates.

Marksmanship

Standing, two hands
15 feet
No time restrictions
Paper Plates
Shoot 10 plates with 5 shots on each plate. All shots must be inside a half inch margin from the edge of the plate. Shooters may rest between each set of plates.

Marksman First Class

Standing, two hands with strong and weak side holding positions. For clarification, strong side position one is holds the pistol while the weak hand supports the grip. Weak side position the weak hand holds the pistol while the strong hand supports the grip.
15 Feet AP-2 target
30 Feet AP-1 target
Time restrictions: 6-minutes each side
Stage 1 Strong Side: Five targets with 10 shots in each.
Stage 2 Weak Side: Five targets with 10 shots in each
Both stages must be completed in the same session to qualify.
A total of 10 shots per target with a possible score of 100 points per target.

Sharpshooter

Standing, ready, two hands with strong and weak side stages
15 feet AP-2 Target, or
30-Feet AL-1 Target
Time Restrictions: 20 Seconds each side
Stage 1 Strong Side: Five shots
Stage 2 Weak Side: 5 Shots
Both stages must be completed in the same session to qualify
A total of 10 shots per target with a possible score of 100 points per target
Shoot 10 targets, five with a score of 60 or better and five with a score of 65 or better.

Expert

Standing, ready, one hand, both strong and weak side stages
15 Feet AP-2 target, or
30 Feet AP-1 target
Two Time restrictions: 3-minutes and 10 seconds
Stage 1 Strong Side: 5-shots in three minutes; 5-shots in ten seconds
Stage 2 Weak Side: 5-shots in three minutes; 5-shots in ten seconds
A total of 20 Shots (ten per target); possible score of 200 points
Shoot two times over the course with a minimum score or 130 or better and three times with a minimum score of 150 or better. The number of courses does not need to be fired in succession or on the same day.

Distinguished Expert

Standing, ready, with two hands, strong and weak sides
15 Feet AP-2 Target, and
30 Feet AP-1 Target
AP-1 Target Setup: One target at 30 feet with the top edge of the target at eye level
AP-2 Target Setup: one target at 15 feet with the top edge of the target at eye level
Stage 1: 5 rounds, strong side, 2-hands, 10-seconds
Stage 2: 5 rounds, strong side, one-handed, 10-seconds
Stage 3: 5 rounds, weak side, 2-hands, 10-seconds
Stage 4: 5 rounds, weak side, one-handed, 10-seconds
Shoot three times over the course with a minimum score of 145, and three times over the course with a minimum score of 170.
